Order your Turkey, Press your Apples, Stock up for Winter!

Hello Friends of Hillside Farm!

This summer has ultimately been a strange and challenging one, and we continue to be so grateful for the new and long-time customers making it all worth it. Though things are slowing down in many ways on the farm, there is still so much activity!

Turkeys!

It’s time to order your turkey! We have expanded our pickup locations to provide birds to folks across the state! You can now pickup up your bird at any of the follow locations:

On Farm/Market:
On Farm at Hillside Farm in East Albany: Sunday, November 19, 1-6pm
Capital City Farmers Market in Montpelier: Saturday, Nov. 18, 10am-2pm

Additional products such as pork, whole chickens, chicken cuts, cider, apple sauce, farm merch, and farm crafts will be available at the On Farm and Market pickups, don’t miss out!

Partner Businesses:
The Genny Craftsbury: Monday, November 20, 4-6 pm
Bread & Butter Farm in Shelburne: Monday, November 20, 1-4pm

Our turkeys are free-ranged and moved frequently to ensure they have fresh pasture daily, fed GMO-free grain, and processed right here on the farm. Our turkeys are sold frozen, with the heart, livers, and neck packaged inside. Click the link below to go to our Order page and get all the details!

Apples!

We have Apple Cider! This is an exciting time of year for us, especially as we’ve watched the bumper crop of apples develop on the trees! Our cider is currently available from us at Montpelier Farmers Market and by appointment at the farm, but will soon be available in many more stores in the area!

Apple Pressing Services!

Have too many apples to know what to do with? Want cider from your own trees? The incredible apple year has every backyard tree loaded. If you would like to have cider from your neighborhood trees, we are now offering apple pressing!

  • $40 per full press of apples bottled raw, which takes approximately 4.5-5 bushels of apples, and produces 11-13 gallons of cider.

  • $60 per full press, pasteurized or canning into 1/2gallon canning-safe jars or growlers. No refunds for failed seals on growlers.

  • No Drop Apples. We work hard to keep our equipment clean, if you want to go home with raw cider, we ask you to gather by picking, or shaking onto tarps, not collecting from the ground!

  • Must provide your own containers. Plastic bottles can be purchased at a small cost for raw or pasteurized cider, but 1/2 gallon canning jars, or growlers with seal-able lids are required for canning.

  • We expect customers to participant in the whole process. Bring the whole family for a fun couple hours of filling your shelves with your own apple cider!

The best cider comes from a diverse collection of apples, so get out there and gather from that loaded roadside tree down the street, just be sure to ask landowners beforehand! Or better yet, gather a group of neighbors together to do a whole day of pressing, we can pasteurize as many as 25 gallons (2 press loads) at a time.

To schedule a cider pressing date with Bill and Hannah, or to inquire further about the service, please call us at (802) 755-6222.

If you just have a few apples, not enough for a full press, bring them and the whole family to our Cider Pressing Party on October 1, 12-4pm. Bring apples, take home cider. Please do not collect drop apples for this event, as the cider will be bottled raw! Cider and donuts will be served, and a potluck will begin at 4pm at the Hillside Barn with Farmer Open Mic, hosted by Rural Vermont. These events are free to the public!

Farm Store Update

We are still hammering out the details of how to operate our farm store, but soon we will have cider, chicken, pork, farm merch and crafts, and more available on farm during our open hours. Stay tuned for further updates!
